Instagram recipe import
Turn an Instagram reel into a recipe you can cook
Found a recipe on Instagram? Share the public post or reel with Matlyst. The app uses the available caption to create an editable recipe with separate ingredients and instructions.
How to import a recipe from Instagram
Open Matlyst once before your first import and accept the AI notice. Matlyst uses AI to identify and structure the recipe information that Instagram makes available.
- Open the post or reel. Find a public Instagram post or reel with the recipe in its caption. Tap the Share button.
- Share it to Matlyst. Choose Share to, then select Matlyst from the app list.
- Review and save. Check the title, ingredients and instructions against the original. Make any corrections, choose a folder if you like, then save the recipe.
You can also copy the Instagram link, open Add recipe in Matlyst and choose Paste a link. If you can access the recipe text but the link cannot be read, paste the text under Type it in.
Matlyst reads recipe information available with the public post, usually the caption. It does not transcribe speech or text shown only inside a reel. Private, deleted, restricted or unavailable posts may not be readable.
From reel caption to organised recipe
Matlyst separates the available caption into ingredients and instructions, translates them into your selected app language and uses metric units by default. Always check quantities and steps before cooking.
Where your Instagram recipes are saved
The imported recipe is saved in your Matlyst collection, where you can search for it, put it in a folder, add it to your meal plan and send its ingredients to your shopping list. The original source stays attached when it is available.
Save recipes from more than Instagram
Matlyst also imports supported recipes from TikTok, YouTube, recipe websites, photos, text and Paprika export files. See the complete recipe import guide.
Instagram recipe questions
How do I import recipes from Instagram?
Open a public Instagram post or reel, tap Share, choose Share to and select Matlyst. Review the imported ingredients and instructions before saving.
Is there a free app to import recipes from Instagram?
Matlyst includes a limited number of free link imports each month. Current limits, Pro features and prices are shown in the app before you buy.
How do I extract a recipe from an Instagram reel?
Share the public reel with Matlyst. If the recipe is available in its caption, Matlyst can organise it into ingredients and instructions. It does not transcribe speech or text shown only inside the reel.
How can I convert an Instagram reel to a recipe?
Share the reel or paste its link in Matlyst. The app turns accessible recipe text into an editable recipe you can organise, plan and shop from.
Where are imported Instagram recipes saved?
They are saved in your Matlyst recipe collection, not in Instagram. You can find them with search, organise them in folders and keep the original source link when it is available.
Can I copy a recipe from an Instagram caption on iPhone?
Yes. You can share the post directly to Matlyst, or copy accessible recipe text and paste it under Type it in.
Can Matlyst import recipes from private Instagram accounts?
Not reliably. Matlyst needs access to the recipe information in a public post. Private, deleted, restricted or unavailable posts may not be readable.
Does Matlyst download the Instagram video?
No. Matlyst saves the structured recipe information and keeps the source link when available. It does not download the reel as a video file.
